TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A fire broke out early Thursday morning at a mobile home on Aviary Way, prompting a multi-department response and resulting in significant damage to the structure.

Fire crews from the Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department, along with Silverton, East Dover, and Whitesville Fire Departments, responded to the scene at approximately 7:00 a.m.. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames extending through the roof of the home.

The occupant had already left for the day, but five cats were still inside. Firefighters quickly stretched a 1¾-inch hose line to battle the blaze while conducting search operations. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, and all five cats were safely located and removed.

Fire personnel remained on scene for about two hours as investigators from the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention examined the cause. Preliminary findings indicate the fire originated in the kitchen and is believed to be accidental.

No injuries were reported. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
