Newark braces for weekend snow and rain, officials warn of possible flooding

by Breaking Local News Report

NEWARK, N.J. — A wintry mix of snow and rain is expected to hit Newark this weekend, with officials warning of potential flooding and urging residents to take precautions.

Snow is forecast to begin after 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, with an expected accumulation of 1 to 3 inches before transitioning to rain after 1 a.m. Sunday.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. advised drivers to avoid flooded streets and adhere to No Parking on Snow-Covered Roadways signs posted throughout the city. Officials also cautioned residents to secure outdoor items and use flashlights instead of candles in the event of power outages.

The Department of Public Safety is coordinating responses to burglar alarms, flooding, and other weather-related incidents, urging residents to report non-emergencies at 973-733-6000 and to dial 911 for emergencies.
