WASHINGTON, DC — The death of a man who was critically injured during a robbery in October has been ruled a homicide, and authorities are considering additional charges against two juveniles already in custody.
On October 27 at around 5:00 a.m., officers found a man unconscious in the 500 block of T Street, Northwest. The victim, identified as 39-year-old Bryan Smith of Northwest DC, was hospitalized for critical injuries and later transferred to a Virginia hospital, where he died on November 7.
A medical examiner determined on Thursday that Smith’s death was caused by blunt force trauma and ruled it a homicide. Detectives are working with the Office of the Attorney General for DC to pursue further charges against the two juvenile suspects, ages 16 and 14, who were arrested on November 14.
The suspects had already been charged with multiple counts of robbery and assault related to other incidents that occurred in the early morning hours of October 27.
