Newark police seek help identifying suspect in broad daylight assault

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who allegedly punched a victim in the face outside a Dunkin Donuts on Springfield Avenue earlier this week.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. said the assault occurred around 10:56 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, and was captured on surveillance video. The suspect, described as a Black male in his early 40s to 50s, was seen wearing eyeglasses, a tan cap, an olive button-up shirt, black jeans, and black sneakers.

Surveillance footage captures suspect

Footage shows the suspect approaching and striking the victim without warning in the 300 block of Springfield Avenue. Authorities released still images from the video in hopes the public can help identify the individual.

Director Miranda emphasized the importance of community involvement and urged anyone with information to contact the Police Division’s Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.

All tips are confidential, and callers could be eligible for a reward if their information leads to an arrest.

Call for public assistance

The Newark Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the assault and is actively pursuing leads based on the surveillance footage.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has additional information is encouraged to come forward immediately.
