FLEMINGTON, N.J. — The Hunterdon Wine Express is back for its seasonal run, offering a round-trip rail excursion from Flemington to Old York Cellars Winery in Ringoes aboard the historic Black River & Western Railroad, with tastings, lunch, and vineyard views included.
Running Saturdays and select dates through September 7, the event begins at the Flemington train station on Stangl Road, where guests board at 11:30 a.m. for a short train ride narrated by a winery ambassador. Upon arrival at Ringoes Station, a shuttle transports participants to the winery for a curated tasting and lunch experience.
The event features a guided Wine, Charcuterie, Cheese and Chocolate Pairing Experience, led by a member of the Old York Cellars team. Guests sample award-winning wines paired with artisanal meats, cheeses, and handcrafted chocolates from The Fudge Shoppe, followed by lunch prepared by the vineyard’s in-house chef.
“Guests will then be treated to the perfect winery lunch, with a selection of menu items from the resident Chef,” organizers said. Attendees also have time to walk the vineyard grounds before returning to the station for the ride back.
Weekend outing blends rail history, local wines and scenic views
The full event runs from 11:15 a.m. check-in to a 3:40 p.m. return at Flemington Station. Tickets are $99 per person and must be reserved in advance. The event is rain or shine and non-refundable unless canceled by organizers due to weather or mechanical issues.
Guests are encouraged to wear casual clothes and walking shoes to explore the winery comfortably. The experience offers a unique blend of regional wine culture and New Jersey rail history in one afternoon outing.
Train rides, tastings, and vineyard strolls headline this weekend’s launch of the Hunterdon Wine Express.
