Deputy rescues ducklings after mother struck by car in Valrico

A Hillsborough County deputy intervened in an unusual traffic situation near Valrico on Monday, rescuing six ducklings after their mother was struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

The incident unfolded during routine patrol when the deputy spotted a duck and her ducklings attempting to cross a busy road. She quickly turned her patrol car around to assist, but by the time she returned, the adult duck had been fatally hit.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the details in a statement released Monday afternoon. “Although it was a sad moment, the deputy wasted no time rescuing the six tiny ducklings left behind,” the office said.

The department’s Agriculture Unit later arrived on scene to take custody of the ducklings and ensure they were placed in a secure environment. Officials said the animals were transferred to a “safe, loving new home,” though no specific location was disclosed.
