QUEENS, N.Y. — A 33-year-old man is fighting for his life after he and a companion were viciously assaulted and robbed by three unidentified suspects early Wednesday morning in Jackson Heights, police said.

The victims were walking together in front of 79-15 Roosevelt Avenue around 2:38 a.m. when the suspects approached and forcibly removed jewelry from the 33-year-old, authorities said. The group then struck both victims repeatedly with closed fists before fleeing eastbound on Roosevelt Avenue.

The 33-year-old victim fell to the sidewalk during the assault and struck his head, sustaining severe head trauma. He was transported in critical condition to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst. The 37-year-old male victim refused medical treatment despite suffering visible bruises and swelling.

The NYPD is searching for the suspects, all described as males with medium complexions. Each had distinct clothing at the time of the attack. Surveillance footage is being reviewed in the ongoing investigation.

Police have not released the names of the victims. The motive for the assault remains under investigation.

The first suspect wore a blue hat, a white sweatshirt with black lettering, black pants with white stripes, and white sneakers, police said. The second suspect was last seen in a blue shirt, black pants, and black and white sneakers.
