TOMS RIVER, N.J. — Ocean County officials will consider more than 20 traffic safety improvements during the upcoming meeting of the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, with changes spanning speed zones, traffic signals, and no-passing regulations in multiple municipalities.
Among the proposed updates are alterations to no-passing zones along several county roads, including Ocean Gate Drive, Double Trouble Road, and James Street. Speed zones would also be adjusted along Cedar Run Dock Road and East Bay Avenue in Stafford and Eagleswood Townships.
The board will also vote on traffic signal upgrades at key intersections in Long Beach Township, Brick, and Barnegat, including signals at 100th Street and Long Beach Boulevard, Herborn Avenue and Burnt Tavern Road, and West Bay Avenue at the Garden State Parkway ramps.
“These changes are part of a broader strategy to enhance safety across the county’s transportation network,” the meeting agenda stated.
Lakewood to receive major traffic signal upgrades
A significant portion of the safety measures involves Lakewood Township, where 14 traffic signals are scheduled for improvements. These include the installation of battery backup systems and generator bypass switches to ensure signal reliability during power outages.
Lakewood locations slated for updates include intersections along Cedar Bridge Avenue, New Hampshire Avenue, and Massachusetts Avenue. Shared services and amended agreements will formalize the township’s participation in the projects.
Manchester Township is also part of the initiative, with a new agreement for upgrading targeted traffic signals within its jurisdiction.
The full list of improvements will be reviewed and voted on during the board’s regular meeting.
