WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was shot and killed Tuesday night in the Navy Yard neighborhood, prompting a homicide investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Officers were called to the 1000 block of 3rd Place SE shortly before 9:45 p.m. for reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed he was not breathing and unresponsive when they arrived.
Officials believe the victim was a young adult, though his identity and age have not yet been released. His body was taken for further examination as detectives continued canvassing the area for evidence and surveillance footage.
No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning. Investigators are asking for the public’s help to gather information about what led up to the shooting.
