Family birthdates fuel $50K lottery win in Charm City

Baltimore man wins $50,000 on Powerball Double Play ticket

by Local News Report

BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore medical worker turned a $1 add-on into a $50,000 win after hitting big in the Powerball Double Play drawing on May 21.

The player, who chose numbers based on family birth dates and times, purchased the ticket at the Horseshoe Casino, located at 1525 Russell Street. While he didn’t win in the main Powerball drawing, the Double Play feature gave him a second chance — and it paid off.

In the Double Play drawing, the numbers were 4, 9, 21, 37, and 56 with a Powerball of 2. The Baltimore City resident matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball, missing only the number 56 — he had 39.

The Double Play option costs $1 extra per ticket and offers a chance to win up to $10 million in a separate drawing held 30 minutes after the regular Powerball drawing. His third-tier match resulted in a $50,000 prize.

The winner said he plans to use the money to pay off bills. As of Friday, the Powerball jackpot for the next drawing on May 24 stands at an estimated $163 million annuity or $73.3 million cash option.
