Man killed in violent assault outside Rockville diner

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating the death of 49-year-old Fredi Torres, who died after an assault late Wednesday night outside a Rockville restaurant.

At approximately 11:52 p.m. on May 21, 1st District officers responded to a report of an assault at the Silver Diner, located in the 12200 block of Rockville Pike. Upon arrival, police found Torres unresponsive and began performing life-saving measures.

Personnel from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services arrived shortly after and transported Torres to a nearby hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not released details about what led to the assault or whether any suspects have been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.

Medical examiner to determine cause of death

Torres’ body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the deadly assault of a Gaithersburg man near a Rockville diner.
