COLUMBIA, Md. — A visit to the Maryland Lottery booth at Merriweather Post Pavilion’s Capital Jazz Festival led to a $50,000 payday for a New England man.
The man and his mother traveled to Maryland for the festival after she won $500 on a scratch-off ticket in their home state. While at the event, they visited the Maryland Lottery booth, where the mother purchased a ticket on Saturday but did not win.
They returned on Sunday, and the son purchased a $20 Lucky 777 scratch-off ticket. He waited until they were back at their hotel that evening to scratch the ticket and discovered the $50,000 prize.
Festival visit turns into unexpected jackpot
The Capital Jazz Fest is one of many events attended by the Maryland Lottery each year. At these events, attendees can spin a prize wheel for promotional items, and select retailers sell tickets on site. York Road Plaza Wine and Spirits, located at 6360 York Road in Baltimore County, provided ticket sales for this festival.
The winner, who is an entrepreneur, expressed excitement about the prize and returned to Baltimore to claim his winnings. He plans to save and invest the money.
