Scratch-off surprise leads to $50K family celebration

Edgemere man gives $50K Let’s Make a Deal scratch-off prize to family

by Local News Report

EDGEMERE, MD — A scratch-off player from Edgemere handed over a $50,000 winning ticket to his son and daughter-in-law after hitting the top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Let’s Make a Deal game.

The winning ticket was purchased at Edgemere Convenience, located at 7308 North Point Road. The store will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winner.

The man, a regular Lottery player, said he only plays occasionally when he has extra change in his pocket. After buying the $5 ticket, he discovered the big win, but chose not to claim it for himself. Instead, he gifted the ticket to his family members. While his son doesn’t play the Lottery, his daughter-in-law is a fan of Racetrax.

The player said he typically scratches tickets and then settles in to watch classic shows like The Rockford Files or Barney Miller. The Let’s Make a Deal win came as a surprise but didn’t change his relaxed approach to playing.

This marks the fifth $50,000 top prize claimed in the Let’s Make a Deal scratch-off game, which launched in April.

Let’s Make a Deal scratch-off game still offering big prizes

The game also includes a second-chance promotion. Non-winning Let’s Make a Deal tickets can be entered into the My Lottery Rewards program through September 8 for a chance to win $5,000 or a trip to Hollywood.

Each of the five drawings will award one VIP trip for two to Los Angeles, where winners will attend a taping of the Let’s Make a Deal show. The package includes airfare, hotel accommodations, $1,660 in spending money, and a guided tour of city landmarks. Winners will also visit a costume shop to select an outfit to wear during the taping, where they will have the chance to win up to $3,000 as part of the show experience.

Maryland Lottery officials continue to promote the game, which has more top prizes available.
