VEO-riding gunman wanted after South Capitol robbery

Suspect sought after armed robbery in Southeast DC escape on electric bike

by Local News Report

WASHINGTON, DC — A suspect who fled on an electric bicycle after robbing a person at gunpoint in Southeast is being sought by the Metropolitan Police Department following a daylight incident captured on surveillance cameras.

The robbery occurred Tuesday at around 2:43 p.m. in the 700 block of South Capitol Street, Southeast. Responding First District officers learned that an unidentified male approached the victim while armed, stole items, and then fled the area riding a VEO electric bicycle.

Investigators obtained surveillance footage showing the suspect in the vicinity around the time of the robbery. Images from that footage have been released publicly as officials ask for help identifying the individual.

The suspect’s appearance and direction of travel have not been detailed by police, but the bicycle brand and time of day suggest he may have traveled through a busy section of the city near Nationals Park and residential developments.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
