Swimmer injured off Barnegat Light beach transported to hospital for treatment

BARNEGAT LIGHT, N.J. — A swimmer sustained a minor leg injury while in the water near the 9th Street beach in Barnegat Light on Saturday morning, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.

According to the Long Beach Township Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:39 a.m. to assist the Barnegat Light Beach Patrol, which had already begun responding to the injured swimmer. The male swimmer, who has not been identified, was reported to have suffered a minor leg injury.

The exact cause of the injury has not been determined. Authorities did not report the presence of marine life, sharp objects or other hazards at the time of the incident.

Beach Patrol personnel transported the individual from the area of the 9th Street beach to 19th Street, where they met with Long Beach Township police officers and members of Barnegat Light First Aid.

The man was then taken by emergency responders to Southern Ocean Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
