WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a broad daylight robbery that targeted a city parking officer on L Street in Northwest, police said.
On Wednesday around 3 p.m., the suspect allegedly approached a Department of Public Works Parking Enforcement Officer who was writing a parking ticket in the 2500 block of L Street NW, then grabbed the officer’s government-issued device and fled on foot.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Maylin Carranza-Garcia of Annandale, Va., was taken into custody the following day and charged with robbery (snatch), according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Officials said the victim was not injured during the incident and recovered quickly after the theft.

The stolen device was not immediately recovered, and investigators have not disclosed whether Carranza-Garcia knew the victim beforehand.
Police continue to review area surveillance video as part of the ongoing investigation.
Carranza-Garcia was transported to the department’s headquarters for processing following his arrest.
Authorities said the offense took place in a busy commercial corridor near several restaurants and offices.
