PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A 32-year-old man reported missing by his family Thursday morning was found dead later that afternoon near a pond in Bristow, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

At approximately 2 p.m. on May 8, officers responded to the 10200 block of Golf Academy Drive to investigate a reported death. Earlier in the day, the man’s family had contacted police to report him missing.

Officers began canvassing areas the man was known to frequent. During the search, authorities located some of his personal belongings near a pond in the area. First responders later discovered his body nearby.

The man’s identity has not been publicly released. Police said there were no signs of foul play based on initial findings at the scene.

Medical examiner to determine official cause of death

The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further examination. The official cause and manner of death will be determined following the autopsy.

Investigators have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the man’s disappearance or how long he may have been near the pond before being located.

The case remains under review, pending the results of the medical examination.
