Suspect captured after deadly hallway shooting in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON, DC – A man was found shot inside an apartment building hallway in Southeast early Sunday, setting off an investigation that led to a murder arrest within hours as officers tracked down a suspect across state lines.

Officers responded around 5:01 a.m. Sunday to the 1200 block of Valley Avenue Southeast after reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they located an adult male inside the hallway suffering from a gunshot wound.

DC Fire and EMS personnel attempted lifesaving efforts, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was later identified as 29-year-old Levon Livingston of Southeast DC.

By Monday, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, working with the Prince George’s County Police Department, located and arrested 26-year-old Niko Lancaster of Oxon Hill, Maryland. The arrest was made under a DC Superior Court warrant.

Lancaster has been charged with second-degree murder. Investigators said preliminary findings indicate the shooting stemmed from a domestic-related incident.

Officials acknowledged the role of Prince George’s County Police in assisting with the case as the investigation moved forward.
