Doorbell cam bandit hits multiple homes in Southeast DC crime spree
Washington, DC — A string of overnight break-ins and property crimes across Southeast has police searching for a suspect caught on camera targeting homes in a tight time window.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the incidents unfolded between April 13 and April 14 across several blocks in Southeast.
The first case occurred around 11:11 p.m. on April 13, when the suspect unlawfully entered a residence in the 300 block of 2nd Street Southeast. No property was reported taken.
Hours later, at approximately 3:38 a.m., the suspect removed a video doorbell from a home in the 1500 block of K Street Southeast. Minutes after that, around 4:00 a.m., another video doorbell was destroyed at a residence in the 1300 block of K Street Southeast.
In a separate incident at roughly the same time, the suspect entered a home in the 900 block of 15th Street Southeast and began taking property before fleeing after waking the occupants.
Police said the suspect was captured on a video doorbell system, and images have been released as investigators work to identify the individual.
Authorities are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
