Baltimore man scores $50K Powerball win after ticket sits untouched for days
Baltimore, MD — A weekly Powerball player discovered a $50,000 prize sitting in his home after unknowingly leaving the winning ticket unchecked for nearly two weeks.
The Baltimore resident matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball in a recent drawing, falling one number short of the jackpot.
The ticket had been purchased at Dollar Plus on South Broadway after the player sent a friend to buy it using a play slip. According to lottery officials, the ticket was crumpled before being flattened and set aside.
The man said he initially did not realize the ticket was a winner until he checked it days later.
The retired facilities manager claimed the prize April 28 at Maryland Lottery headquarters.
He plans to use the winnings for home window replacements, vehicle repairs, and personal expenses.
Lottery officials said the $50,000 prize is awarded for matching four white balls and the Powerball.
