Teens arrested after scooter confrontation turns into robbery in Southwest DC
Washington, DC — A group confrontation over a pair of shoes escalated into a robbery in Southwest D.C., ending with three juveniles in custody after officers intervened.
The incident occurred around 4:24 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of N Street Southwest. Police said two victims were attempting to use rideshare scooters when they were approached by multiple suspects who began asking about one victim’s shoes.
Authorities said the encounter turned physical, with the suspects assaulting the victims and attempting to take the shoes. During the altercation, a cellphone was taken from one of the victims as another tried to intervene.
An officer patrolling the area observed the incident and intervened as the suspects fled. With assistance from DC Housing Authority Police, officers located and arrested three juvenile males — ages 16, 15, and 15 — from Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast D.C.
Police said the stolen cellphone was recovered from one of the suspects.
All three were charged with robbery involving force and violence. The investigation remains ongoing.
