Firehouse drop off dog still searching for a way out

Husky surrendered twice remains at Northern Ocean County shelter

BRICK, NJ — A husky named Theo remains at the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility as staff continue searching for a licensed rescue organization to assume his care after he was abandoned outside a local fire station earlier this month, according to information shared by the facility’s volunteer group.

Theo, estimated to be about two years old, was reportedly left tied to a pole with his crate beside him. Facility staff later learned that he had first been found as a stray as a puppy, then kept by a family for two years before being surrendered again.

Shelter personnel said Theo has shown mild resource guarding, which is why placement through a 501(c)(3) rescue organization is required. According to the facility, he has otherwise been friendly, energetic, and playful during his stay and exhibits behavior consistent with a young husky.

Theo is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and current on vaccinations. Staff said he interacts appropriately with other dogs, though his high energy level may not fit all environments.
