Charlotte Hall man lands $77,777 scratch-off win after string of smaller prizes
Charlotte Hall, MD — A series of small scratch-off wins led to a larger payout for a St. Mary’s County man who decided to buy one more ticket before leaving a local store.
The Charlotte Hall resident, who works as a waterman, said he stopped at St. Mary’s Gas Station on Colton Point Road and initially purchased a $2 ticket, winning $5. He then bought a $5 ticket and won $15, followed by a $10 ticket that also returned $15.
As he prepared to leave, he decided to purchase one final ticket — a Lucky 7s Multiplier scratch-off.
That ticket turned out to be a $77,777 top prize.
The winner said he scanned the ticket at the store, where the machine displayed a winning message, later confirmed by the cashier.
He shared the news with his girlfriend after returning home. The couple later visited Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim the prize.
The winner said he plans to place the money into savings.
Lottery officials said the $10 Lucky 7s Multiplier game launched with 10 top prizes, with several still unclaimed. The retailer that sold the ticket will receive a $777 bonus.
