Gunfire turns Philly street into crash site as 21-year-old driver shot in head

Philadelphia, PA – A drive through North Philadelphia turned into chaos just after midnight when gunfire rang out, striking two men in a gray Toyota Camry before it slammed into parked cars on 21st Street, leaving one of the victims in extremely critical condition.

The violence unfolded around 12:01 a.m. as the Camry turned onto 21st Street from West Conlyn Street in the city’s 35th District. A 21-year-old man behind the wheel was shot in the head, and a 20-year-old passenger was struck in the right arm. The vehicle then veered off the road and crashed into multiple parked cars along the 5800 block.

In the aftermath, the injured passenger escaped the wreck and ran several blocks before flagging down a SEPTA bus near Kemble Avenue and Nedro Street. A passing driver in a silver vehicle then transported him to Albert Einstein Medical Center (AEMC), where he was listed in stable condition.

Philadelphia Fire Department’s Medic 18 responded to the crash site and rushed the driver to AEMC in extremely critical condition.

Police have not identified a motive for the shooting, and no suspects have been taken into custody. The case is being handled by the Shooting Investigation Group, which continues to gather evidence and review surveillance footage from the area.
