Jeep flips in Stafford crash leaving one hospitalized

Jeep overturns in violent Stafford Township crash that sends one to trauma center

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ — Morning traffic was brought to a standstill Wednesday after a Jeep Wrangler flipped in a violent two-vehicle crash at a major intersection, sending one man to a trauma center with severe injuries.

The collision occurred around 8:18 a.m. at the intersection of McKinley Avenue and General Grier Boulevard. According to investigators, a 2010 Dodge Journey driven by 32-year-old Jennifer Wilchak of Manahawkin was heading east on McKinley when she attempted a left turn across traffic. Her vehicle turned in front of an oncoming 2024 Jeep Wrangler driven by 67-year-old Fred Olita of Little Egg Harbor, resulting in a serious crash.

The impact caused the Jeep to overturn in the middle of the intersection, sustaining major damage. Olita suffered significant injuries and was rushed to the Atlantic City Trauma Center for emergency treatment. His current condition has not been publicly released.

Police closed the area to traffic for approximately three hours as officers with the Traffic Safety Unit conducted an on-scene investigation and cleared debris.

The Stafford Township Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Traffic Safety Officer DeMarco at 609-597-1189, extension 8456.
