Joint-Base Fire Clouds Sunset at the Jersey Shore

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. — A wildland fire within Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) remains under close watch by firefighters as containment efforts continue, officials reported on Sunday. Crews are employing burn-back strategies to limit the fire’s reach and minimize the risk of further spread within the base’s range area.

On Sunday night, the fire made for an interesting sunset from bay view points across Monmouth and Ocean County at the Jersey Shore.

According to a statement from the JB MDL Fire Department, the fire is fully contained, with no evacuations ordered and no structures at risk. Winds from the northwest, however, are pushing smoke toward the base, and authorities warned that as temperatures drop and winds subside, the smoke could linger close to the ground.

“Firefighters could be operating on or near roadways,” the update noted, urging motorists to observe caution in areas with limited visibility due to smoke. No road closures have been specifically detailed, but warning signs are in place to manage traffic flow.

The fire department is continuing to monitor the situation closely, and additional information will be provided if conditions change. For now, crews remain on alert to maintain the burn-back lines and ensure the fire stays contained within the range boundaries.
