NEW YORK, NY – A late-night stop at a Bronx deli turned violent when a would-be shoplifter allegedly attacked an employee and brandished a knife before fleeing into the night, leaving investigators searching for the suspect.

The incident occurred around 1:07 a.m. inside 37 Deli Grocery, located at 37 West 183 Street within the 52nd Precinct. Police said an unidentified individual entered the store and attempted to leave with merchandise without paying.

When a 51-year-old male employee tried to intervene, the suspect punched him in the face and displayed a knife, escalating the confrontation. The suspect then fled the location in an unknown direction. The employee’s condition was not disclosed.

The suspect remains unidentified, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers.
