New Castle street crime leaves man hospitalized after assault
New Castle, DE — A man walking along a New Castle roadway early Wednesday was attacked and robbed by two masked suspects who struck him with a handgun before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of New Castle Avenue, according to Delaware State Police.
Investigators said a 37-year-old man was approached by a gray SUV, from which two male suspects exited wearing masks and dark clothing. During the encounter, the suspects struck the victim with a handgun and took his personal property.
The suspects then fled the area in the SUV. No further description of the vehicle or suspects has been released.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The case remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit as detectives seek additional information about the incident.
