A Wilkes-Barre man was beaten with a microwave during a home invasion before fighting off his attacker with pepper spray.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — A 61-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday night after being bludgeoned with a microwave oven by a burglar who broke into his West Market Street residence, police said.

Officers with the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department responded to the scene around 9:31 p.m. on April 5, where they found the victim suffering from injuries sustained during the violent home invasion.

According to the victim, an unidentified Black male suspect forced entry through the front door and attacked him in his bedroom. The victim said the suspect grabbed a microwave and used it to repeatedly strike him.

Despite the attack, the victim managed to retrieve a can of pepper spray and used it to repel the assailant. The suspect fled the home before officers arrived.

Investigation ongoing

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition was not disclosed. Police described the suspect as a thin-built Black male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. His age is unknown.

No arrests have been made. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and encouraged anyone with information to contact police.
