Mother stabbed to death by daughter in Kansas

Wichita, KS A 47-year-old former news anchor has been charged with killing her 80-year-old mother in a home in Wichita. Angelynn Mock faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Anita Avers, as confirmed by law enforcement.

Officers responded to the residence in the 1500 block of East Crowley shortly before 8 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, they found Avers unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Mock was located outside the home when authorities arrived and was later arrested. She is now being held at Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Mock reportedly claimed self-defense during the incident, according to audio obtained from 911 dispatchers. In the call, it was said that “the calling party stabbed the mother to save herself.”

A neighbor reported that Mock approached her and her boyfriend covered in blood, requesting to call 911. The neighbor described how Mock begged for a phone, ran back into the home after receiving it, and appeared shaken.

Mock previously worked as a morning anchor for Fox 2 News in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. Her mother, Avers, was a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist with 20 years of experience specializing in various mental health issues.
