Newark Police Search for Robbery Suspect Accused of Assaulting Victim During Dumpster Dispute

NEWARK, N.J. — Newark police are asking for the public’s help identifying a robbery suspect accused of threatening two men with a weapon and assaulting one of them during a confrontation tied to trash disposal earlier this month.

The robbery happened around 11 a.m. on May 9 in the 80 block of Concord Street, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr.

Police said the two victims had stopped with a box truck to dispose of bulk trash in a dumpster when a man approached them claiming ownership of the dumpster and demanding payment.

According to investigators, the suspect initially demanded $60, which the victims paid. The man then allegedly demanded an additional $20.

Victim Knocked to Ground During Robbery

When the victims refused to hand over more money, police said the suspect pulled out a weapon and threatened them.

As one of the victims walked back toward the truck to retrieve more cash, the suspect allegedly punched the second victim in the face, knocking him to the ground.

Authorities said the victims eventually gave the suspect additional money before fleeing the area.

Police did not specify what type of weapon the suspect allegedly displayed during the robbery.
