Passaic County youth program coordinator charged in online child luring sting released from custody

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – A 33-year-old man who worked as a youth program coordinator at Passaic County Community College has been charged in an undercover child luring operation and released from custody after a week in detention, according to court and inmate records.

Cameron J. Ameye, originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, was arrested by East Brunswick police on December 11 as part of “Operation Bad Santa,” a statewide sting led by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. The investigation targeted individuals accused of using online messaging platforms to attempt to meet minors for sexual activity.

Ameye was charged with luring or enticing a child by various means under statute 2C:13-6A and criminal attempt under statute 2C:5-1A(1). He was booked into the Middlesex County Jail at 9:10 p.m. on December 11 and held without bail before being released on December 18 at 5:17 p.m., records show.

Authorities said Ameye was one of twelve men arrested during the six-day operation that ran from December 8 through December 15, which involved cooperation between the FBI Newark Field Office, East Brunswick Police Department, and multiple local and federal agencies.

Court documents list Ameye as a non-U.S. citizen. His charges remain pending in remand court, and no trial date has yet been set.
