Police: Newark Juvenile Responsible for Both “Heinous” Stabbings in Point Pleasant Labor Day Weekend

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ – A police investigation into the heinous and bloody stabbing of two beachgoers at the beach in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey has revealed one juvenile is responsible for both slashings.   Victims suffered life-threatening wounds, but are now recovering in critical, but stable care in the hospital.

What was a beautiful weekend at the Jersey Shore could have easily ended with a double homicide if not for the quick response by Point Pleasant’s lifeguards, police and first responders.

Today, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Point Pleasant Beach Chief of Police Joseph A. Michigan announced that a juvenile from Newark has been arrested and charged with two counts of Attempted Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a and N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1 in connection with a stabbing of two males that occurred in Point Pleasant Beach on Monday, September 7, 2020. The juvenile was also charged with Possession of a Weapon – specifically a knife — for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, as well as Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d. The juvenile is being detained in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.

“Due to the fact that that the individual charged with these offenses is a juvenile, the law prohibits the release of any additional information,” the prosecutor said. “Our collaborative investigation revealed that this juvenile was responsible for both stabbings. We did have two individuals in custody last night, but only one of them is responsible for both stabbings. Both victims are in serious but stable condition this morning.”

“Everyone involved from the moment this heinous crime occurred really went above and beyond. The Jenkinson’s Lifeguards, Jenkinson’s management and security staff and the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, collectively, are the reason these two young men are still alive and we have the right person in custody,” Prosecutor Billhimer added.

Prosecutor Billhimer and Chief Michigan wish to acknowledge the hard work and diligence of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for their collaborative efforts leading to the suspect’s apprehension.
