Police seize dozens of suspected drug containers along busy highway

Traffic stop on Ritchie Highway leads to drug arrests in Glen Burnie

GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A traffic stop along Ritchie Highway Tuesday night ended with two Baltimore residents under arrest after detectives recovered suspected crack cocaine and heroin from a vehicle and nearby brush, police said.

The stop occurred February 10 at approximately 9:20 p.m. near East Ordnance Road. Detectives from the Eastern District Strategic Patrol Team observed a passenger exit a residence in Pasadena known for drug activity and enter the vehicle prior to initiating the stop, according to authorities.

During the encounter, investigators established probable cause to search the vehicle. As the front seat passenger exited, she was observed discarding an object into nearby brush, police said.

Detectives recovered a bag from the bushes containing suspected drugs. Additional suspected narcotics were located inside the vehicle.

In total, officers seized approximately 16.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine packaged in 40 individual containers and 4.1 grams of suspected heroin or fentanyl in 11 gel caps, according to police.

The driver, identified as Bakari Xavier Evans, 32, of Baltimore, and the passenger, identified as Brianna Christine Vail, 24, of Baltimore, were arrested and charged.

The charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
