WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives voted to pass a streamlined government funding bill on Friday, with several key provisions shaped by former President Donald Trump’s input, according to lawmakers and aides familiar with the negotiations.
Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed that he worked closely with Trump during the process, citing the former president’s significant role in crafting the final bill. “He was involved throughout,” Johnson told reporters following the vote.
The bill, which was reduced from 1,500 pages to 120 pages, removed protections for the House’s January 6 Committee records and blocked funding for the Global Engagement Center, a State Department agency criticized by conservatives for alleged censorship practices.
The legislation also included $20 billion in agricultural disaster assistance and $10 billion in aid for farmers impacted by recent hurricanes, measures that drew bipartisan support.
Trump’s influence on the legislative priorities reflects his ongoing sway within the Republican Party, even as he remains focused on his 2024 presidential campaign.
