ROBBINSVILLE, NJ – New Jersey Congressman Donald Norcross called for The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) to investigate Amazon’s workplace safety after three workers died in the past month in the company’s New Jersey facilities.
“People should feel confident that when they go to work they’ll be safe and come home the way they went in,” Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-1) said after a Carteret employee’s death.
In response to that call for an investigation, OSHA has since launched a full investigation.
On July 13th, a worker was injured in an incident at the Robbinsville facility during the company’s Prime Day sales event. That worker died three days later after falling from a ladder and striking his head.
Yet another worker died at Amazon’s Monroe facility on August 4th.
This week, Amazon spokesperson Sam Stephenson did not disclose how the third worker died, saying only, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague and our thoughts are with his family and friends. We are in contact with the employee’s family to offer support, and we’re providing counseling resources to employees needing additional care. As is standard protocol, we are conducting an internal investigation and are cooperating with OSHA, who is also conducting their own independent review.”
