Wildwood Announces “Major Air Show” Coming to the Jersey Shore in 2025

THE WILDWOODS, N.J. – The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) is in discussions with an airshow company to bring a large-scale aerial event to the Wildwoods in September 2025, potentially drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators to the Jersey Shore.

While no contract has been signed, GWTIDA officials say they recognize the economic and tourism benefits of hosting an airshow, which has historically attracted more than 400,000 visitors to southern New Jersey. If finalized, the event—tentatively named “Thunder Over the Waves”—would take place over two days, with a practice session on Friday, Sept. 5, followed by the main event on Saturday, Sept. 6.

“The Wildwoods offer a strong infrastructure and venue capacity to successfully host the airshow,” GWTIDA officials said in a statement, noting that VIP bleachers on the beach, along with viewing areas at hotels, piers, and businesses, would enhance the experience for attendees.

While performer lineups are yet to be confirmed, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and U.S. Navy Blue Angels will not be available due to prior commitments. However, organizers are pursuing other jet teams and aerial performers to deliver a high-energy event.

Beyond 2025, GWTIDA is exploring the possibility of making the airshow an annual September tradition, extending the tourism season past Labor Day. The event would be free to the public, funded through a mix of GWTIDA resources and corporate sponsorships.
