Woman Found Shot and Strangled as Police Search for Fugitive Wanted for Attack

DUQUESNE, PA – Police are searching for 28-year-old Deandre Hawkins of McKeesport after he allegedly strangled and shot a woman early Saturday morning.

The Allegheny County Police Department’s General Investigations Unit reported, “At approximately 4:15 AM on Saturday, County 9-1-1 was notified that an adult female arrived at an area hospital with gunshot wounds to her arm and wrist.”

Police said first responders found evidence of a shooting at the intersection of Viola Avenue and South 5th Street and the woman was treated for injuries. She is expected to survive.

During their investigation, the Allegheny County Police identified 28-year-old Deandre Hawkins of McKeesport as the person responsible for the assault.

A criminal complaint was filed charging Hawkins with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, one count of strangulation, and one count of recklessly endangering another person.

“An arrest warrant for Hawkins has been issued. His whereabouts are currently unknown, but he is to be considered potentially armed and dangerous,” police said.
