OAG investigation launched after police involved shooting in Old Bridge

OLD BRIDGE, NJ – State authorities in New Jersey are investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred in the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place around 3:09 p.m. after police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a dispute on Woodland Avenue in Laurence Harbor.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office confirmed that one man was wounded and subsequently transported to Old Bridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:47 p.m. The identities of the victim and the officer involved in the shooting have not been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available.

Under a 2019 law, the Attorney General’s Office is required to conduct investigations into deaths occurring during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in their official capacity or while the decedent is in custody. All such investigations must be presented to a grand jury to determine if an indictment against the officer or officers involved is warranted.
