Shirley Man Indicted for Killing Girlfriend

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – Oscar Morocho-Morocho, a 32-year-old Shirley resident, was indicted for Manslaughter in the First and Second Degree after being suspected of causing the death of his girlfriend, Ruth Para-Martinez.

The Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney made the announcement on Wednesday.

On the evening of May 7, 2023, Morocho-Morocho is alleged to have physically attacked Para-Martinez in a commercial area of Shirley. Surveillance footage from a nearby business reportedly shows him assaulting her for nearly half an hour before leaving the scene.

The next morning, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Para-Martinez was found deceased by members of the Suffolk County Police Department, at the same location.

Morocho-Morocho was arraigned on Wednesday, by Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable John B. Collins. He is currently held on $100,000 cash or a $1,000,000 bond. His next court date is set for June 26, 2023. Jason Bassett, Esq., represents Morocho-Morocho. The case is prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Francis X. Schroeder of the Homicide Bureau.
