NEWARK, NJ – Kalil Bryant, a 40-year-old man from East Orange, NJ, admitted to attempting to kill a former federal informant by shooting him, as announced by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger on Wednesday. In a court appearance before U.S. District Judge John Michael Vazquez, Bryant pleaded guilty to two counts of an indictment for possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and retaliating against a witness, victim, or informant.
The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 24, 2019, when Bryant shot the victim in retaliation for the victim’s cooperation with the FBI. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 10, 2023.
