MANHATTAN, NY – Andrew Young, a 32-year-old resident of Manhattan, was sentenced to 11 years in state prison on Friday, following a violent altercation in West Harlem. The Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. stated that Young was convicted of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Resisting Arrest on May 26.
On February 19, 2022, Young engaged in a verbal dispute with a 32-year-old man they both knew from their neighborhood. The disagreement escalated outside a deli at 3377 Broadway, where Young produced a knife and stabbed the man approximately 12 times. The victim took refuge inside the deli while Young remained outside, attempting to force the door open. Young eventually fled the scene and the victim survived his injuries.
Young was apprehended on June 30, 2022, after police officers identified him on the street. An attempt to evade arrest led to a brief pursuit before Young was taken into custody.
