ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—The Atlantic City Police Department’s Emergency Response Team arrested Ruben Flores, 31, of Atlantic City, following an altercation involving a handgun on Albany and Winchester Avenues.
Patrol officers responded to a report of a man threatening and chasing another man with a handgun at 2:19 AM. Upon arrival, officers found the 25-year-old victim from Willingboro, NJ. According to the victim, he was involved in a verbal altercation with Flores.
Flores then left the scene, returning with a handgun to chase the victim, who sustained minor injuries while jumping a fence to evade Flores. The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment.
Flores retreated into a building in the 300 block of Albany Avenue, prompting officers to establish a perimeter and call the department’s Emergency Response Team. After several hours of negotiation attempts, SWAT officers entered the building, locating Flores hiding. He was arrested without incident. A search of the building did not uncover a weapon.
Flores faces charges of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. He has been remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. The public is reminded that charges are mere allegations, and Flores is considered innocent until proven guilty.
