TOMS RIVER, NJ – Monday morning dawned dark for thousands in Toms River and Lakewood as an unexpected power outage affected homes and businesses.

Jersey Central Power & Light worked to rectify the situation, reporting a decrease from 10,000 without service at 3 a.m. to nearly 6,500 by 7 a.m.

The affected residents and businesses can expect a restoration of service, as the utility company has projected a complete recovery by 8 a.m.

As of 7:30 am, 1,500 homes were still without power.
