Sussex County Felon Arrested for Gun Possession and Drug Dealing

Laurel, DE – An 18-year-old probationer and convicted felon, Jeremiah Handy of Seaford, Delaware, was arrested by the Delaware State Police for gun possession and drug dealing yesterday.

On August 22 at approximately 3:40 p.m., members of the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force acted on information that Handy was allegedly selling drugs at the 400 building of Little Creek Apartments in Laurel and was in possession of a firearm. Detectives responded to the scene and observed Handy with a handgun in his waistband.

Despite reaching for the weapon, Handy was apprehended without incident. Officers recovered the loaded handgun, approximately 60.42 grams of marijuana in Handy’s backpack, and over $2,100 suspected to be proceeds from drug dealing.

Handy was charged with multiple felonies, including:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession of a Firearm While Possessing a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
  • Carrying a Concealed Firearm

He also faces a charge for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Handy was brought to Troop 4 and subsequently arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $170,500 cash bond.
