NEW ORLEANS, LA – Oronde Gabriel, 39, of New Orleans, was sentenced today to 30 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon also ordered Gabriel to serve three years of supervised release following his imprisonment and to pay a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

Court records indicate that Gabriel was involved in a car accident on September 27, 2021. A police officer who arrived at the scene found Gabriel in possession of a fully loaded Taurus Model G2C, nine-millimeter handgun, equipped with an extended high-capacity magazine. Gabriel had a prior conviction for conspiracy to make false and fictitious statements related to the acquisition of a firearm.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. PSN collaborates with various levels of law enforcement and community organizations to make neighborhoods safer. A renewed focus for the program was launched on May 26, 2021, emphasizing trust, community-based prevention, strategic enforcement, and measurable results.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, along with the Orleans Levee District Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward Rivera of the Financial Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
