Sioux City Man with Criminal History Sentenced for Illegal Gun Charges

SIOUX CITY, IA – Marlo Harper, also known as Umar Amir Al-Sayyaad Allahdheen, 46, from Sioux City, Iowa, was sentenced to 198 months in federal prison on September 27, 2023, following a guilty plea to two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and drug user, and twice violating the Armed Career Criminal Act. Harper pled guilty on March 13, 2023, admitting to unlawful possession of firearms on two occasions in August 2021. United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand imposed the sentence, which will be followed by a 5-year term of supervised release. Federal sentences do not include parole.

On August 10, 2021, Harper was stopped by Sioux City Police for traffic infractions and was found to possess a loaded handgun and an open container of alcohol. Another stop by the Iowa State Patrol on August 24, 2021, revealed approximately 2 grams of marijuana, a loaded handgun, three additional firearms, ammunition, a set of nunchucks, and a samurai sword in Harper’s vehicle.

Harper has previous convictions for multiple counts of assault and battery in Hennepin County, Minnesota; Ramsey County, Minnesota; and Fulton County, Georgia. He was also convicted of theft in Tarrant County, Texas.
