New Jersey Republicans Celebrate After Phil Murphy's Wind Farm Fails

TRENTON, NJ – Sen. Anthony M. Bucco expressed his stance following Orsted’s decision to pull out from New Jersey’s offshore wind initiative. He stated, “Republicans have consistently pointed out that Orsted’s offshore wind endeavor was unviable and bound to collapse.

Today, Orsted’s choice validates our concerns about the project being overly ambitious, expensive, and rushed.” He criticized the Democrats for overlooking the evident financial issues and hastily pushing forward with Governor Murphy’s energy blueprint.

Bucco acknowledged the efforts of Congressman Jeff Van Drew and other Republican members in highlighting the potential negative impacts of the offshore wind strategy on both the environment and the economy.

He emphasized the need for transparency on the amount expended on this venture and reaffirmed the Republican commitment to a robust, safe, and equitable energy strategy for New Jersey.

Earlier in the summer, Senate Republicans had cautioned about Orsted’s financial instability threatening the longevity of their offshore wind projects, a concern that has now been realized with Orsted’s recent announcement.
