Ronkonkoma, NY — The Suffolk County Police Department is requesting public assistance in locating a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred one year ago in Ronkonkoma. On that day, Robert Twiford, a 61-year-old resident of Melville, parked his vehicle on the off-ramp of the eastbound Long Island Expressway at exit 60. At approximately 8:00 PM, he exited his vehicle and was struck by a passing vehicle that subsequently fled the scene.

The fleeing vehicle, described as a light-colored, possibly gray, 2015 to 2018 Ford Focus hatchback, was later seen on Garrity Avenue in Ronkonkoma. The driver stopped, exited the vehicle, and inspected it with a flashlight. Twiford was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
