Delaware Man Arrested on Drug Charges Following Newark Traffic Stop

NEWARK, DE — Delaware State Police arrested 33-year-old Raheem Sanders of Wilmington, Delaware, on drug-related charges following a traffic stop in Newark on the evening of December 21, 2023.

Members of the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force, while patrolling near the Jenmar Shopping Plaza at 430 South Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, noticed a black Chevrolet Impala with temporary Pennsylvania registration entering the shopping center. Upon checking, the registration was found to be invalid, prompting detectives to initiate a traffic stop.

As detectives approached the vehicle, they observed Sanders, the driver, attempting to discard a plastic baggie into a Wawa cup. Sanders then refused to comply with multiple verbal commands and was seen throwing a crystal-like substance on the ground, which he subsequently tried to destroy by stomping on it. The substance was later confirmed to be methamphetamine.

A subsequent search of Sanders and his vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 1.8 grams of crack cocaine, about 25 grams of methamphetamine, and $322 suspected to be proceeds from drug dealing.

Further investigation revealed that Sanders’ driver’s license was revoked. He was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with various offenses. Following arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Sanders was committed to How
